Bread Distribution Programme

The collection and distribution of unsold bread and pastries from bakeries has been ongoing since the start of FFTH in February 2003. This will always be the core business of FFTH. The collection and deliveries are being carried out by volunteers on a daily basis. The average mission time is 30 minutes.

As of July 2008, the number of collection points stands at 100 at all times, with 100 – 120 homes receiving the unsold bread and pastries. Everyday, there are about 200 fixed routes and it takes approximately 1700 volunteers to service these routes in a week. On a monthly average, the FFTH Programme manages to save around 16,000kg of bread from going into the garbage bin!

The retail value of bread distributed in the first five year of operation was SGD 7.5 million dollars.

Postive Trends

Since Grand Hyatt Hotel has joined FFTH programme as the pioneer in the hotel industry in 2005, many others like Shangri-La and Ritz-Carlton Millenia, as well as Four Seasons and The Fullerton joined the programme. For the full listing of our partners, please go the page on Our Partners.

The bread from the hotels will serve our Self Collection Centres, reaching out to needy individuals and families due to the time element. The recruitment of bread shops and bakeries is still on-going.

Please do contact us if you know of any bakery who is willing to give their unsold bread for the needy.
