Our Founders
Our organisation was founded by an Austrian couple, Mr Henry and Ms Christine Laimer, who have made Singapore their second home. Their experience in the logistics field helped them start this programme, to avoid food wastage.
The programme was born on 28 Nov 2002, when an article in The Straits Times, reported that bread companies dump large quantities of unsold bread daily.
Message From the Founders
Over the past four years, we have seen Food from the Heart blossom from a simple concept into the community force that it is today. We feel both honoured and privileged at the part that we have played in its success.
A total of five programmes, benefiting 11,000 individuals are run by a small number of paid employees and thousands of volunteers. These volunteers come from all walks of life and their participation is, and has always been, crucial to the success of the programmes. To all these generous individuals and institutions, on behalf of all our beneficiaries, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks.
As we move into our fifth year, our resolve and passion to fulfill our mission only grows stronger. Currently, to sustain our operations and outreach, we require funding of S$1 million per annum. While this is a daunting challenge in itself, we actually require more funding because there is tremendous headroom for growth in the programmes that we run.
A case in point is the food distribution programme that is run through the school network. Today, we are only working with ten neighbourhood schools and we aim to increase this number dramatically. This will obviously mean additional support from both corporates and individuals alike. We are, however, heartened and optimistic when we see the response that we receive in funding and in volunteers giving their time.
When we witness the daily plight of our beneficiaries, it only strengthens our determinations not to let them down and to find new & additional ways of helping them. This has given birth to programmes like Toys from the Heart and Birthdays from the Heart.
From a simple idea of bread distribution, FFTH has moved on to deliver joy and hope to many underprivileged families in Singapore. Our staff, volunteers and we ourselves are still very committed to the cause and are passionate about its success. Together, there is much we can do and we aim to increase our outreach to even more families in need.
As we look back, we marvel at what FFTH has achieved but recognize that we can still do a lot more and look forward to working with all our partners.
