Beneficiaries

Homes

The beneficiaries of our programmes are 120 welfare homes and institutions such as children's homes, senior citizens' homes, Senior Activity Centres (on the void decks of HDB blocks), handicapped homes and day care centres for children from troubled background. These welfare homes and institutions receive the bread supply on a daily basis.

Needy individuals and families

Beneficiaries are chosen through the school and Resident Committee networks that are requested to provide details of families who need support.  In compiling the data, we discovered that the average per capita income in the households participating is between S$0 – S$200. Many of these individuals are truly down and out, relying on handouts from friends and family.

Their circumstances include single parent families with one parent either deceased, in prison or in drug rehab; single mothers; families with a member with long term costly medical issues or families where the breadwinner is unable to work because of an accident or illness. The children in these families grow up far too quickly and too early as they are impacted by these tragic events.

The following are some snapshots of the circumstances that our beneficiaries face.

"Life is so precious. I thought it was gone for me! After your help, I felt I came back. Thank you…" A student receiving the monthly food goodie bag.

"My father was the only one working until he collapsed and died at his workplace in April 2004. That time my mum was only a housewife. My family was devastated. My mum did not know what to do. Luckily my father had some savings and the house was fully paid under the Dependent Protection Scheme which my father bought. Luckily our form teacher (2004), Mrs Chang was able to help with the finance like free textbooks for me and my sister who enrolled in year 2005. I really appreciate Food from the Heart giving us free food." - Student from Evergreen Primary School

"Food from the Heart has helped us a lot. My sister and I appreciate the food very much. We do not go hungry anymore. My mother does not have to buy food from the supermarket. We would like to thank Food from the Heart for assisting us in time of need. We are grateful for the help rendered to us." - Student from Evergreen Primary School whose father was murdered in 2005 & her mother, a China national is unemployed.

"Thank you for your help. It has made our everyday life better, knowing that there are people who care. Definitely we have no means to repay your kindness other than our prayers that may all the best health & happiness be with you." - Madina & family

"My family and I would like to thank you for the food that has been given to us. Because of the food, we have lightened the burden of my father since he is the only one who is working in my family. We really really appreciate your kindness. Once again thank you for the food. Your kindness will still be remembered in our hearts." - Nurul Syakirah & family

"Thank you for giving us things to eat, I have improved in my work. I felt happy & I don’t know what to say but thank you so much!" - Lai Shu Wei

"Thank you for your help to give us free food. Because of you, my family is surviving. I love you…" - Siva, Arvin & Dinesh

"Thank you for all the food you gave to my family. My family does not have much money to buy food. Thank you for it." - Toh Jun Xiong

"Thank you very much for giving me a lot of good things to my poor family. Thank you very much for giving me nice food. You are my saver." - Noelle
