Food from the Heart (FFTH) started with the Bread Distribution Programme in February 2003, and has been channeling unsold bread from bakeries and hotels to welfare organizations, needy families and individuals since then. The programme is based on the willingness of bakeries, hotels and that of our volunteers to carry out missions to save bread on a daily basis, thus avoiding bread wastage.
Due to the overwhelming response from volunteers and partners in the food industry, it was possible to diversify our services to needy individuals and families. Today, the free bread is being delivered to 120 welfare homes in Singapore, as well as to more than 5500 needy individuals directly (under the Self Collection Centre Programme and Food Goodie Bag Programme). Every month, we serve 11,000 beneficiaries.
In August 2008, Food from the Heart was changed to Food from the Heart Ltd. by guarantee. Our company registration number is 20021064R and our charity number is 002107. Food from the Heart Ltd has been granted IPC status. This means that every cash donation made to Food from the Heart will be double tax exempted. FFTH was set up as a business model, with the emphasis on professionalism, efficiency and transparency. As an achievement, FFTH received the Outstanding New Initiative Award by National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) in November 2004 at the Istana. On top of that Christine Laimer was awarded the International Woman of the Year 2006/2007 by the American Women Association.
With the infrastructure and the network established (office in Goldhill Centre with 9 staff, 1 warehouse facility, 2 delivery vans and 2 drivers), FFTH has started several other meaningful programmes, which help reduce the daily burden of families in financial troubles.
